Raising Funds to Help Children with Cancer
Hello All... I hope everyone is doing well and getting excited for summer.
We were finally able to get an idea of our numbers for this years ride.
We had about 300 people participate and we raised almost $27,000. This was our best year ever! On behalf of all of us at Cody's Foundation, I want to tell you how happy we are and how much we appreciate everything that all of you have done and continue to do for us. As always, I wish I could thank each and everyone of you individually... I hope you all know how much I truly appreciate all you do for Cody's Foundation.
Thanks to all of you, the ride is getting larger every year. We are rasing more money and in turn are able to help more kids and their familes.
As always, I want to thank my family, friends and the entire staff that helps me put this event on each year. I am lucky to have all of you for support and becasue of your hard work, Cody's Ride was a success again this year.
To all the sponsors, a great big "Thank You" for all of the generous donations you provide to us. Your continued generosity and support is amazing and we are extremly grateful for it.
A special thank you to Craig Dickhout, owner of "Think Ink Racing", for having "Redneck Rodeo" come out and play for us. They put on a great show and everyone really enjoyed their music.
Cody's big sister Mackenzie started a Facebook page for the foundation. When you have time, please check it out. We will be putting pictures on there very soon and if you have pictures that you would like to post, let us know.
This year the cost for the food and drinks was $3500. The ride apparel will be around $3500. We also had to buy some items to use for the poker run and raffle, and that cost was about $1000.
We had a tremendous amount of positive comments about our first Poker Run. Several folks told us that they loved having the food and raffle out at the campsite and that they want us to do the event the same way every year. Please let us know your thoughts on the subject.
This year I decided to use the money we raised a little differently. I rented a suite at Angel stadium and on May 26, I will be taking some kids from CHOC, along with their familes to see the Angels play the Padres. I am also working with the Angels on trying to get the kids in early to watch the Angels take batting practice. The cost for the suite rental and food is about $2500.
On Easter weekend, Paige and I went to a Poker Run Fundraiser for a 8 year old boy named Jon Jon. The family planned on Jon Jon being at the ride, but sadly he died on March 30, 2015. It's called "Ride 4 Life" and this is a group of folks I met a few years ago that put on a ride every year to raise money for one (1) family who has a child that has cancer. We wrote the family a check for $1100 and the total amount raised was about $10,000.
I also purchased $1100 in gift cards and XBox games for the teenagers at CHOC.
In June I will be attending a fundraiser for Make A Wish and I will be giving them a check for $1500. I will also be making a $1000 donation to Comfort Zone Camp and $1000 to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
I will be contacting Miller's Children's Hospital to see if they need anything this year.
Jean (Cody's Mom) had a raffle for folks that did not attend the ride and she raised $7500 for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Good job Jean, great work.
As always, if you know of a family with a child suffering from an illness, please let me know.
Also, please let us know if you have any input on things we might need to change or any suggestions on what we can do to improve the ride in anyway. Since we will probably continue to have the lunch and the raffle at the campsite, we definitely know some areas in which we need to change or improve upon for next year... (the sound system, more tables etc...).
We hope you all have a great summer and we look forward to seeing all of you next year.
Loyd (Cody's Dad).
